bangunan rumah minimalis

bangunan rumah minimalis

you could be an orthodox christian if you wereborn in damascus on 4th century. but if you were born sometime later in the sameiocation, you might become a monoficit christian. add another hundred years. still in damascus, you could be born as a moslem named ahmad. arnold toynbee - 1975 lndonesia is the most populated moslem countryin the world

bangunan rumah minimalis

bangunan rumah minimalis, among its 240 million citizens,81 percent of indonesians are moslems as a majority, moslem community in indonesia,in the early stage of its independence, have lived side by side in peacealong with other religions [theahmad]

but now, indonesia is now facing tough challengesagainst its unite in diversity principle ahmadiyya people are now becominga stateless citizen in indonesia ln 2008, since the so-called ulema councilassembly issued a haram fatwa (illegal) againstahmadis that backed up by three indonesian minister, the terror and threat against ahmadis by the mobbecame viral almost every month we heard that the mobsransacking ahmedis home and mosque the worst case happened in cikeusik, february2011. the incident is now becoming internationalissue. [lndonesia raya national anthem] [lndonesia the sacred land, our sacred land]

ls it truly our sacred land? wr soepratman, the composer of indonesia rayanational anthem, is one of ahmadis people probably, he never thought that the sacred landthat he used to defend, is now prohibited for peoplethat shares a religious view like him wr supratman was an ahmadis wr supratman was one of the ahmadiyya people fight the ahmadiyya! kill ahmadiyya! remove ahmadiyya from indonesia! allahu akbar! (god is great)

hizbut tahrir indonesia, the fundamental moslemgroup that concentrates on establishing khilafah, has strongly condemned ahmadiyya teaching. lsmail yusanto, the spokesman for htl quoted assaying that ahmadiyya need to be disbanded this scrambler wild against the qoran recognition that there is a prophet after prophetmuhammad is an insult against the person wemost honored as a result, we want to put this as not beingincluded as a matter of religious freedom but this is a blasphemy against religion most of the prominence people now seemscrambling to defend ahmadiyya criminality is a dangerous thing

but it is more dangerous having an organizedcrime existed deviant islam is also dangerous, more dangerous if there is an organized deviant ahmadiyya is included as a deviant sectand this should be disbanded ln fact, it is fair enough if muslims are getting mad,as they feel insulted lf there are groups of muslims who don't feel thesame way, who don't feel mad or dissturb, it seems they don't understand islam well people's ways in expressing anger might bevarious while some just sit back and watch, some otherscould easily react and take rebellious yet chaoticacts against this matter therefore, to prevent things becoming worse, such as riots and clashes

the government should carry out necessary firmactions this man who was born in 1964 said that he hasbeen practicing ahmadiyya since the day he wasborn lf he practice and worship ahmadiyya once hebecame an adult, then he should be regarded asan aposstate soon they were told to convert to islam again what if ahmadiyya people do not want to convertto islam, shall we fãght or do something? fight ahmadiyya, kill ahmadyya, remove ahmadyya from indonesia apparently, things that happenedin some places recently are right where they convert to islam, said the shahada(creed) and leave their deviant religion the blood of ahmadis is permissible to be shed

they said this could be considered as a violationto human rights, go to hell with human rights! human rights are shit! speaking of this matter, we cannot directlyconclude the blood of ahmadis are permissibleto be shed lf someone was an ahmadi since he was bornthen we could consider the blood as ''kosher'' but, for someone becoming ahmadiyya since his/her adult life, then he/she is an apostate apostasy in islam is allowed to be fought off but in this case, the war here means as lita'dibthe war to return to islam. at glance, you might find difficulties on whosepraying right now. is it moslem or ahmadis? but even, the adzan (call to pray) that you're nowhearing is conducted by ahmadis.

the classic believes about the disstinction betweenahmadiyya and islam is on the imam mahdipresence ahmadis believes that imam mahdi has alreadycome on the other hand, majority of moslems believethe imam mahdi has yet to come ln our understanding, ahmadiyya's pillars of theislamic faith and harmony are the same namely six pillars of faith and five pillars of islam for instance, hajj. for those who are obliged to doit, it becomes mandatory to go to mecca as it was stipulated in prophet muhammad'steachings on another note, some people say thatahmadiyya's shahada (creed) is differentthan common islam l say that our shahada is: 'there is no god butgod, and muhammad is the messenger of god'(the same with islam)

hence, until now we do not understand what isbeing considered as defamation our holy book is qoran lt is wrong to consider tadhkirah as our holy book we have never claimed such thing tadhkirah is a compilation of some quotes fromsome ahmadiyya scholars that is being taken from the ahmadiyya founder'sbooks and compiled into one book how can we regard this as a holy book?that can be categorized as slander next thing, investigate its content, so that peopleknow it was written in some books, that he felt inspired, got the revelation

and witnessing true dreams lf we claim that our prophet is prophet muhammadsaw, and that's what we try to convey and practice which seeks to be a virtuous character, who havea conscience, who have a certain character that's the most important our faith is in our heart, isn't it? so if there is an effort outward to the later ones, sothat they could change the outward actions it will never come up with good results why? because hearts will never berepresented by the paper our hearrt and mind will never berepresented by the paper

terror and threat is not only happened to ahmadis not long after the cikeusik incident occurred, islam liberal network got a bomb packet in form ofbook addressed to their office at utan kayu community, east jakarta the so-called utan kayu community, that servesas principal for islam liberal network, which championing for the pluralism andtoleration, is one of the supporrters of ahmadiyyaexistence hello, pleased to greet you ali, you are nowlistening and paying the attention on religion andtolerance matter and tonight you're still with me, vivi zabkie and ofcourse, saidiman ahmad and for today's edition... but, threat and bomb terror didn't stop them topromote pluralism in indonesia

through their own tv and radio broadcasst lnterviewed at salihara, another prominent figureson the organizations, guntur romli, responded tothe bomb and ahmadiyya incident when the terror happens, at first, l did not believethat the people doing this were from the oldterrorist networks since the modus operandi they adopted wassuicide bombing for example, they used a truck, heading to utan kayu, exploding bombs or they might carry small bombs in a bagand they are most willing to die if their aim isterror ahmadiyya has exissted since 1925. differences inislam are nothing new in the history of islam, whatever they are then suddenly there were violent acts againstahmadiyya, which triggered everything

the violent acts are the roots of the problem andnot the ahmadis people why don't those people who had done suchviolent acts being punished and arrested those groups, let's say in proper language, try tobe mentored or if they still do the continuous violence, they are the one that should be dibanded the existence of ahmadiyya is proving thatindonesia is indeed acknowledging the concept ofbhinneka lndonesia is diverse beside religious fatwa or hate speech, and alsohatred announcement that is reproduced through study, through the radio, through newsletters and so on there are also political issues attached

ln my opinion, they who are living from violenceagainsst ahmadis, in terms of public opinion and public opinion is what is known now, which is called the transfer issues l think that's true, because the issue of violenceagainst ahmadis is really hmm... really sells in themedia suddenly, all the media covering the violenceagainst ahmadis from the print media, portals and also television mean while those kind of issues like corruption, gayus', then police 'black account' and then also issues like government's failurehave been out stated by the ahmadiyya case franz graf von magnis, popularly known as franzmagnis suseno is the catholic prominent figure and humanitarianchampioner

originally, he was from a royal family in germany at first, he came to indonesia in 1961.now he is an indonesian citizen he added ''suseno'' as his last name as a pluralism campaigner and the post-graduatedirector of the driyarkara philosophy institute, franz known as an avid campaigner for the moraland religious community peace and in indonesia any religion that believes the truth will have thelimits of truth lf there is a group of the same, religion, which hasa doctrine which by most religions it is considered heresy, declared heretical it's something that also happens in christianity,it's just now we only get used to with it

which l think this is very imporrtant, and likerecently said by said agil shiraj, the leader of nu(biggesst moslem mass organization in indonesia) misguided or not, all violence against anyone andany of group including people who consideredheretical firmly without any hesitationshould be dealt harshly! so that's the case, the ahmadis people are stillentitled to live without fear in indonesia however, whether it is something considered asislam or not this is something that l will not interfere, especially for me as a non-muslim lndonesia is now on the brink of disunity the image of islam in indonesia is taintedbecause the government had failed to preventchaos in the name of the religion hardline groups are free to take the law into theirown hands.

ahmadiyya case is only the tip of an iceberg again, unite in diversity which governed oureveryday life as a nation, is indeed lost its meaning now, it's the perfect time to shape ourcountry we must uphold our ancestor's principle to unite in diversity, not to persecute our ownfamily based on their beliefs to have non-violence solution and finally being tolerant and respectful are indeedbecoming our nation's identity since 2007, more than 300 act of violence againsstahmadiyya occured in indonesia. ln 2011 ahmadiyah activities is officially prohibitedin several provinces in indonesia.

bangun rumah

bangun rumah

arsitektur

arsitektur

contemporary nusantara architecture workshop, brawijaya university paulus mintarga - architecture of craftsman nation human civilization without identity is like a point without coordinate. that point doesn't have a position. human civilization including architecture should have

arsitektur

arsitektur, a distinct local identity as well as universal values within it. who has the right to rebuild architecture identity in indonesia? are all those certified architects only? certainly not.

paulus mintarga is not a certified architect let alone a renowned architect figure. his background is civil engineering education. in other countries, tadao ando or antonio gaudi didn't have an architecture degree either. paulus, a native of solo, is drawing interests when he promoted nusantara craftmanship feature which he formulated as his design characteristic. to him, craftmanship in architecture is not only about building materials, but also about working community in togetherness, mutual communality, and environment consciousness. it's all in nusantara's past. how about contemporary nusantara?

that craftmanship is a pretension of human nature manifestation which always seek the focus or the center of everything. as a proof, man needs face as a human figure focus. from the face, man seeks the eye as its center. the irregular natural materials are always more interesting than the homogenous industrial ones. at first, paulus mintarga learned architecture through his activity as a contractor. he worked together with architects such as idris samad, adi purnomo, and yu sing. after awhile, he started to formulate a notion that architecture must fulfill 8 things:

spirit of place, human scale, structure, function, material, aesthetic, sustainable, environment consciousness, nature, and social community. now paulus researches corresponding building materials before starting his projects. in rumah turi, aside from the concept of recycling greywater, it is quite interesting to observe his verticulture concept. the verticulture form is developed from bamboo wall, which conceptually filters the light and air, positioned as outer or secondary skin. this organic/living secondary skin in turn plays the role as a media to refamiliarize man and nature. although not entirely successful, rumah turi is an effort to apply the concept of eco-architecture

just like almost all of nusantara architecture; architecture in harmony with nature. the intimacy of man back to his identity as homo faber or crafting man which favor details is clearly shown in his work rempah rumah kerja, 2011. it is a hub of designer and artist community, a research workshop, a gallery and an artworks marketing facility all at once. almost all of its construction and finishing consisted from used materials. steelworks of its main construction came from the remaining of a demolished warehouse. some of the interior wall coverings are shards of used tile. and the most peculiar feature is the exterior wall facade

which arranged from the waste of furniture industry with knit and bundle techniques. without a doubt, this is a similar knitting technique found in traditional society in nusantara such as dayak knitted beads. how rich it is nusantara architecture as a source of design ideas. it is time for us to rise up from clutch of euro-americentric architecture design information.

arsitektur rumah minimalis

arsitektur rumah minimalis

good day chaps'ngirls! i'm rojtirlaaknivii and you're very welcome to a video that is a little bit different. in this video i'm not going to do a game playthrough, i'm going to design a house in the sims 4.

arsitektur rumah minimalis

arsitektur rumah minimalis, i... when i'm playing the sims in my spare time... i realised that i think designing houses and making the interior look nice... ... is actually quite fun to do!

and... when i did that i was always proud of what it looked like... so, in this episode i'm actually going to design a house in a video. you've seen this before... ummm... i don't know, a couple of months ago... wh... ummm... when i did a make-over and i still did the sims 4 playthrough. when i looked back at that last night... i actually realised it looked really well. and over the time...

the plot, i uploaded it to the gallery, has been downloaded for over 800 times! and i'm proud of that! and i felt like this... maybe this is something to do... maybe this is something to do on my channel. umm... to show you guys that i actually can make houses look nice! ;) i don't want to sound like a douchebag or like i boast... but i'm actually proud of what i did in this video.

for this house, i chose for something that looks like a countryside house... ... with vintage and dark wooden interior. because i like dark wooden interior, it looks nice! well... i don't know how to explain it otherwise... but i just think it looks nice... i think it's quite fun to do... to... create something that looks old. and countryside-ish... so... just have a look and see if you like it! and if you do; there is a link in the description how you can get there,

or i'll explain later in the video how you can download this house from the gallery. do you hear those high-pitched thingies in the background? that is the original music, but because i sped it all up it's all high-pitched. so i tried to put the volume down a little for that music, and put the real music over it. so it doesn't sou-... it doesn't annoy you. if i didn't put the music over it...

... uhhh, like the music you hear now, the better music, not the high-pitched music in the background... ... if i didn't do that you will only hear the high-pitched things and that would be annoying. i know that! i don't like high pitched things... everything i do in this video is made up on the spot. so i didn't look at other houses so i can design my house like that as well. i just made it up on the spot. and nowhere else, i didn't use any help; i just used my mind and the sims 4... of course! this house costs something like â§33.000 simoleons.

and it has one bedroom and one bathroom. and i think that is the house done! just look at it! o my god, i'm so proud of what i made in this house! i hope you like it as well! if you enjoyed the video: please leave a like! if you want to see more: subscribe to my channel! :d and i hope i can see you all in the next video and if so... have a good one!

arsitektur desain

arsitektur desain

architecture becomes more interesting or more and more interestingbecause this is about life about nature, about interpersonal relationship, between human and him/herself,between human and larger reality, including nature this is what makes us never donetalking about architecture

arsitektur desain

arsitektur desain, architecture is firstly about the place we stay and its implications to many things for example, social matter, ormatter of identity identity in scale of private life, group, or nation

architecture can be a tool forcharacter building architecture is the most comprehensive subject architecture can be something that moves, can be something we wears can be something that is folded 24 hours architecture education may be one of the least understood education in society, even though "architecture" and "architect"are two familiar words general perceptions of architecture educationare always about many assignments and lacks of sleep what really happen actually in architecture education?

are those perceptions true? if they're true, what is the purpose and background? how is the correlation with learningin the architecture education? and what is the relevance with whatthey're about to face in architecture profession later? architecture education is almostthe most complete education compared to any other education in architecture, we are indeed required to be a building designer but, actually in designing a building, there are so many dimensions. start from the very private matter, let say toilet, until a matter of a city

a matter of environment so actually in architecture education, what really should be learnt is really broad from the smallest scale, building details, construction, until the architects' considerationstowards their neighbours, their surrounding environtment, and so on architecture is the most comprehensive subject, all in for example, if an architect is commisionedto build a mental hospital inevitably he must learn psychology, inevitably he must learn about hospital until he know that hospital has many different types

if he is commisioned to design a prison,he must know how a prison works. so, it is really comprehensive. i think it is really interesting.all subjects are included in there. the uniqueness of architecture education, based on my experiences are we will learn about concept, thinking process, combined with management, engineering, but at the same timeyou will learn about art architecture education is conducted by means of studio this is unique and i think this is a remarkable approach and it is right why? because in the studiostudents are given opportunity

to recognize problems that theywill face when they are graduated in my imagination before enrollingarchitecture school architect just making small modelsfrom paper or carton but, when i enrolled here, i got the basic design studio in the first year the assignments are like these, making these giants frameworks it's so different from my firstimmagination before enrolling, i ask some informations from seniors about architecture school so i know that i will stay awakeoften but it turns out when i enroll to uph architecture, it's not just stay awake

but also making huge modelsmeters by meters long and doing sawing doing teamwork, making model in the middleof the rain, until late at night what they learn mainly is the logic of materials when they deal directly with materialsthey could feel the weight they could feel the textureand when they know the texture, they could also know that cuttingdifferent kind of timber needs different effort so, they could choose which kind could be used as structural support and which kind could be used asfinishing cover those logics are introduced unconsciously

the heavy weight timber supportthe light weight timber the heavy weight one have some kind of texture, and the light weight have another kind of texture it is all learnt by doing, not theoritically that is what evolve to the architecture way of thinking something heavy support something light and so on the mapping of human being, not just with space, but also with materials they use if wood is touched, they couldfeel the quality of it stone, if it is cut, they couldproduce some kind surface multiplied with another scaleswe could have wf steel

it could be bolted, and we cansee the details are nice if it is welded, it is smudged that is very applicative when we talk about that but i think architecture educationshould be very simple the basic is how we are doing mapping between human and material, space, light, and environment. that's it so there is a problem of close connection between ideas and how it is implemented we could not be fragmented as architect so the craftmanship, the knowledge of materials and how to deal with it is the required knowledge that must bemastered by an architect

we could not tell someone if wedon't know that person's ability likewise with the material selection, structural system selection, we must know the characteristics of every material or minimally the materials that we wantto use and how to deal with it if we could not do it by ourselfwe need another team, that are the craftmen we must realize about the craftmanship that they have from the first semester, especially in the first semester we learn about the basic of aesthetics.it is very fun it is actually like playing games

like, i dont know, the subject names could be different in different campus in my campus back then the subject names for example architecture drawing, color scheme when we learn about color, about shape or form, dimmension, proportion, composition9200:09:24:00 --> 00:09:27.50i think it is like kindergartenbut an advance one we are actually being builtour sensibility to, first, two dimmensions, about composition and proportion we are built very slowly we make a composition from small to big, etc. that is actually the process of building aesthetic sensibility

and it is built in first semesterbased on my experience i think in architecture, the students are more solid maybe because we have this basecamp, studio so after liberal arts class, we could gather here and we could also knowand hang out with the seniors but maybe the tough thing is the non-stopassignments that always haunt us everyday the hardwork this proffesion is a little bit unfair because there are too many things that must be done

so, in the practice we use the working time"nine to five" to meet clients, contractors, projects so, when is the time to think? it is imposible to interact while we think it is not as intense as we imagine eventually, we think at night so, that is why architecture is identical with the night life welcome to architecture night life but that is the reality that is to say that our working hour is long because what i said earlier

there are too many things we should know, too many things we should learn but our time is so short but the more we know how to use time, the more things that we could learn it is an acquired knowledge, knowledge we collect slowly so the more intense we do it,the more often we do overtime maybe we could be smart faster. more or less like that. but we must also use common sense working everywhere should be efficient, smart

if it does not need 24 hours, then it should not be 24 hours although everyone could havedifferent preferences about it studio, writing, designing, drawingproblem solving, finding solutions that are creative processes that are always running sometimes it could not be limited we can't say, you must find solutionby sixteen minutes past four o clock we can't. it is a creative processthat can often makes us forgetting the time it turns out that it is 01.00 a.m.but i'm still fresh i just find new solutions

it turns out to be 08.00 p.m.but i'm just getting started these things are typically happeningin architecture studios both in the schoolor in the real work in my opinion, everywhere in the worldcreative work requires long hours because there are so many requirements eyes (aesthetics), hands (craftmanship),and brain; those three things so, in another science field, maybe what is required just brain only it makes satiety, people get bored easily if it only hands, we could get tired easily

but architecture is differentthose three things are required, eyes, brain, and hands it is all correlated and really fun architecture school is the mostlabor-intensive school i think it is proven everywherebecause to be a good architect, i myself feel that when i begin practicingthe most usefull skill is the skill i acquired in the workshop making model by myself, cutting timber by myself those must be experienced those what make architecture needs timebecause everything must be done by our own hands

there are three types of campus in thewhole world that open 24 hours 365 days per year first, architecture school.go everywhere in the world second, medical shool.third, law school architecture, because our work is studio based work except, scholastic research, by readingand thinking textually but if the research are done by design, by doing inevitably studio become the core, and i think it is correct and a studio work is never finished until the moment we submit and present it modullar, a prefabricated house

the most important is the room modules the modules must be as efficient as possible so there is one module that becomes the keyand the other modules follow it maybe the problem is, there are so many thingsthat should be thought of, but the time is limited and we must gather many informastionsto find the best solution until last minute so it looks like that thereis never enough time because there is always an eager to achievethe better, become better that is what is sought after but actually life is always like that

not just a matter of finishing works, and getting busy at some periods but it is a spirit to find a better solutions continuously i think that is an architect's duty i don't know whether it is a blessingor curse, curse of profession inevitably we must seek after the bestof the best solutions to every problem 24 hours is a way to say that we continue the communication not working 24 hours without stop, like hard labor it can happen everywhere after we get tired in studio,we go outside with friends

in some cafes, or meeting in someone's house we keep on talking about it,we continue the communication consistent with our mission that studio is collaborative and communication in architecture pofessionthere are time when we must work 24 hours there are also time when there arenot many works to do because the fluctuation and tensionsof works are really dinamic that what actually should beintroduced in architecture education why? because not every project existeverytime need 24 hours continuously? no

only 6 or 8 hours working? neither because it is very fluctuativeand depends on the complexity of works but in education, those exercisescould not be avoided from stay awake for 2 days, until at the deadline stay awake for 2 weeks my parents saw me with pity, but they also appreciated me because they saw that i really enjoyed it until when they persuaded me todo something fun like watching moviesor eating out i could say no, i didn't want to gobecause it won't finished one reason, it was because of my responsibilityto finish my assignments

the other reason is i did it with pleasure i was really happy.i didn't feel tortured so eventually my parents feel pitybut they appreciated me surely it's tiring.working like this is tiring moreover the installation's sizereach 2 x 2 meters and more surely it's tiring but after it is finished and see the result, there is a satisfaction the people basically those who want to be architectbecause they are creative,

they like drawing, designing, etcthey go to college based on passion and this passion will defeat everything defeat exhaustion, defeat boringness, defeat many things i see if there are some students stop inthe middle of the study process admittedly they are not suitable to the field so if in the first semester they have felt too difficult i say "do not continue" because it is nothing compared towhat they face when they become architects but when they begin practicing, architect usually feel more enjoyed

start from where?we must formulating. to achieve the four year competence we need some types of students not everybody qualified, to be honest combining technique and art.it is not easy it requires certain qualifications therefore, not everbody can successfullyachieve that in education combining technique and artto create space the qualification is not easy architecture needs openmind

needs some energy to always move and also something that comefrom the heart needs really great passion sometimes we do something that is not necessarily exist but there is willingness to dosome efforts for that sometimes it is absurd we seek, but we do not really surewhat exactly we seek but it is actually those little willingnessthat make life happens maybe students that are independent, open mind and have an awareness to others

that's what important, because becoming architect is not for themselves but to make some changes and improvementsof life for others, for greater reality changes from before she study architecture until now are pretty much, positively and negatively the positive one, she was lazy, not hardworking but when she study architecture, inevitably she is required to be patient, dilligent, persevere because she must met the deadline, many assignments, making models, proposals and i think it is a positive andsignificant trasformation but on the negative side, it is difficultto see her because she is always busy

but we can take the positives from that their hard works are not in vain because if there are no architects like themwho will make this mall, this big who can make hospital, houses so, we can take the positives,if there are no architects, where could we live? architect, like sport, may not be affiliated topolitics, to religion, and else architect must free from all that.so openmind is very important in my office, if you look at the websitethere is a statement that this office is against any discrimination towards gender, religion, sexual orientationand many more lists everyone must be able to work onthe same platform

that's the fun of architecture.so the people must be openmind when i interview people, especially the freshgrads i always ask what is your religion?just to check. for example, islam if someday i have a church projectand i asked you to design a church if he/she must think twice to answer that question, usually i have been rethinking about hiring him/her because that's openmind creative, love drawing or not must have above average intellectual capability the third one, this is one thingis he/she a spoiled kid?

is he/she tough-minded person? if he/she is not tough, in the future he/she won't be an architect must be tough. inside out. facing the field with craftmen, facing the client's fussiness furthermore if the client is a big company, a concorsium there are nine people who criticize our works what kind of character that is required that not tough? super the friendship

it really fun because we did it together with friends stay awake together, staying in the studio if we got stressed out,we're stressed out together so, we are not get down too much studio becomes delightful because everybody doing different project, and we can communicate, share thoughts giving feedbacks to each others there are many friends staying awake togetheruntil late at night, listening music together so the atmosphere that should be tiringbecause of the unstopable assignments becomes fun

because our friends could cheer us up actually, what they see must be inspiring seeing their friends working better seeing the positive atmosphere, producing good works producing tactical planning they could learn continuouslyfrom those inspirations that's what revives their spirit some assignments must be done in groups that's a lesson about teamwork,a lesson to build a team and working in team

and architect in the real world must work in team it won't be him/herself who becomethe craftmen and build his/her design and he/she will become leader in the teambecause the design is in his/her hand where the others will participatein realizing the design so, teamwork in a significant period of timeis really really useful experience the architect profession architect profession is not only about design but also interpersonal skill,it is all connected i think it is a remarkable profession, bringing happiness

i think architecture profession never has ill intention the intention is always to bringhappiness to others people become happy to havea good house and so on an architect does not only think artistically or aesthetically but can we give good solutions to a problem becoming practicioners are not reallydifferent than becoming students we do assignments, starting from initiation commisioning, then we think, rethink, proposing ideas, producing something there is a social responsibilitythat we must consider

that our work will live longer in society it will be annoying if it is not done correctly and it will become something thatis useless if there is no contribution to society so, it only becomes a statue that is laid waste but, sadly this statue is really big an architectural work is never small even one guarding post is quiet big, three or four meter squares try putting a post in the middle ofan entrance preventing cars to enter think about the effect all your life

we must think thoroughly, especially about social responsibility to the society and our stakeholders, including ourselves off course we want to make something good something that can make our reputation as architect could be known but the most important is social responsibility architect, without exaggerating, always works for a goodness in the future it can be assured.and this is interesting for example, i am an architectthen i am commisioned to design a prison prison is something to punish people, right?

but i will act, as i believeother architect will also act like this, that i will design a healthy prison cell there is enough ventilation, enough sun light not thinking to design a prison that will kill the prisoners in six months we will never think like that.we surely will think for goodness so that the prisoners feel comfortable, in other words, enough light and air so that he could be rehabilitated there and that is for goodness finding good solutions through architectural design, i think it is remarkable

only architecture school can do that the architecture education at this timeactually doesn't create a skillful persons or immediately skillful, ready to work my senior, marco kusumawijaya once said in facebook that undergradute school does not create ready-to-work person, but ready-to-think so we prepare the students to be ableto think for themselves not immediately can do anything.it is imposible one think that make me so happyis when i hear some of my students say to me "sir, i want to be an architect"

that is more than enough, rather than he has an a, or he is so clever and can do many things or his/her design is amazing for me that is second thing what must be built is attitude, motive, passion. thats is more than enough to openanything else for the next phase the meaning what is less known is that architectprofession is really needed maybe there are some opinions that architects are way up there for those who can afford to pay them, architects are so expensive

architects are experts, so they're expensive.craftmen can do the work as well but that's when we talk about houses everywhere, houses have exclusion the house owners can design themselves, call some craftmen, done. and it is permitted because the complexity, sorry to say, relatively simple and the owners know exactly what they want i want two rooms, one kitchen, one guess room then they could call experienced craftmenor they have friends who are contractors the house can be built, as long asall the building permits are settled

but architects do not just do that they are needed for projects more thanhouses how about hospital how about apartment how about housing complex, office, mall, airport. those need experts architects are needed those are only normal project we haven't talked about other projectsbeyond the mainstream

village improvement, urban planning, urban grey area revitalization, utilization of under bridge space there are many things that can betouched up by architects people used to think that success always linked to financial rewards that's why some high demand professional majors are always sellable in campuses at my times, it used to be mba, everyone seems obligated to have mba, master of business administration now it is not anymore, is it?almost not exist anymore now what is sellable is law schoolbecause lawyers are highly needed in indonesia which is still developing and arranging its legal institutions

but i think people still see lawyeras profession which generate big money lawyers are very rich, could buy ferraries more than one architects can not reach that leveleven when you work as hard as you can because the energy that is spent compared to the income you can read in all over the world, based on research by aia and others architect is the number 45th or 50th profession while lawyer and doctor is the first and second in america in indonesia lawyer is still income wise about fame, it's something else

because yesterday, there is a publication that stated that the sexiest profession on earth is male architect i don't know wether that could be a standard of success, or not. i just read it yesterday male architect, the sexiest profession on earthnot doctor, not lawyer, not singer architect, weird i think mmm.. not weird, but it's just a choice they choose to say that so, there is satisfaction

there is always satisfaction when youdeliver your work. that's invaluable. exactly like an artist when he create his masterpiece exactly like a doctor when he successfully cures his patient it's an invaluable satisfaction even though to reach that he/she mustsacrifices so much time you can see the famous doctors in indonesia, the cardiologists, professor eka for example he probably goes home at 4 am everyday but to see his dying patient could sit again, that's something... i don't know whether it's an egobecause we want to feel contributing to society

i don't know, but i think in architecture, there is that kind of feeling architect is the same i think.he create a better living environtment that's the purpose. why? people can actually live in caves.people can also live in tents. there is no need for houses actually people can trade on the road side, just on a mattress but the responsibility of architecture is first, what is needed by the environtment we can not build a building that is not environmentally friendly

that is the concept of built environment we can not also build a building that is not save for people for example, the building's stair makes people tired. that's our responsibility then, we have also a responsibility whenit is on fire, how will people get out? how will the users could be saved from that situation because at the end, we design for people not for building the top list architects, they have long age there are so many top list architects have long age, above ninety and they still keep on working until their last breath

there are many above ninety in the world.in indonesia, there are many above eighty and they are still working look at another field, above 55 or 60 they have been tired and many get health problems architects in my view...maybe because they're happy because they works based on passion if someone does his/her passion,he/she are fulfilled i don't have the bahasa indonesia for "fulfilled" the heart is full, not empty, not blanknot looking for something to fulfill it

maybe it could be said happybut i prefer the word "fulfilled" it feels this heart is really full.that nourishes the soul i don't believe that all nighters tend to have shorter livespan, or easily got health problems.in architecture it is not proven the all nighters easily got health problemor have shorter livespan is not proven in architecture it means there is another point that is fulfillment, passion, and happiness that they get from their works and professions so that many architects do not wantto retire until their last breath i think our role as an education institutionis to help preparing our young generations

to live more responsibly to think or willing to care and understandthe broader aspects of life but also in the other side could contribute courage or optimism to face the future with more hope and joy so, in the education, the people is the one that we educate, the attitude the students must know, they work for what and for whom i remember mr bianpoen, in his book i was asked to write a foreword you know mr bianpoen, right? he wrote a book with a title"for what, for whom?"

that is absolutely true you, the students, must ask those questions i make this for what, for whom from the instructor point of view is how we deliver those as simple as possible, as unpainful as possible, as joyful as possible, at least enough to start something if the students feel not enough, that is exactly the successful education if the students feel enough, that is dangerous, because actuallythere is many more to be learnt architects do not only dedicate to the clients or society

they have an opportunity to dedicate themselves to the civilization so, i am the architect of this time, not in the past, not even in the future i'm working with people around me in this time, with skills, experties, and technology of this time i have a privilege to leave an opus in this time we are a marker of time that is a duty that really makes us proud as architects architects can help people because he has abilities and competences reading space, there is not many people can do that

create something from nothing to existthat is almost half become god not got, but almost playing god, imagination is really amazing drawings and models are just tools, but imagination, inviting people to experience happiness, happiness of space, beauty of space i travels to many placesto gather piece by piece the experience of space from the world's master architects they give so much things to other people, their nations, their civilizations that is so mind blowing that is more than a community service, helping the poors,

it makes the poor and the rich happy, other people from other cultures too even they can build their nation.soekarno believed that. architecture can be a tool for character building so, i believe this is a very extraordinary profession.

architecture

hi. my name is doug patt. and this is so youwant to be an architect? a seven part series exploring the architect. this is lesson one, what does an architect do? an architect can perform many roles including design, specificationwriter, construction observation, ombudsman, and even in some cases construction, but forpurposes of this discussion i would like to focus on design. according to one definitionfrom my apple computer dictionary the architect

architecture

architecture, is a person who is responsible for inventingor realizing a particular idea or project. another definition states that an architectis a person who designs buildings and in many cases supervises their construction. finally, wikipedias definition works well. an architect is a person who translates a users requirementsinto a built environment. to summarize then,

an architect: one, invents. two, design buildings.and three, translate the users requirements into a built environment. in a way all threedefinitions fall under the category of design. for purposes of this discussion lets talkabout all three separately? first we know an architect invents. an inventor createssomething out of necessity that does not already exist. in a way every building, every house, every skyscraper, every thing architects create, if its original, is an invention. a buildingbecomes something of an invention by virtue of the specific requirements of the client.its utility lies in its unique function for the person or people it is designed for. second,we know an architect designs. to design is to plan with a specific purpose in mind. tome, designing implies a kind of thoughtful

planning relative to a set of parameters.all kinds of things are designed after their invented. vacuums, sneakers, printers, headphones, telephones, chairs, tables, silverware, and of course buildings. the architect designsthe building after its conceived or invented. thirdly, the architect is a translator inthat they translate a users requirement into a built environment. when you first meet withan architect one of the first discussions is about the program. the program is essentiallya description of everything that will be going into the building. if its a home, the programincludes the number of powder rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms, how many car garage, etc㉠if itsan industrial building the program includes machinery, offices, technology, etc㉠if itsa skyscraper it includes, use, number of occupants,

utility spaces, executive suites, number offloors, etc㉠in simple terms the architect takes the program and turns it into a building.so we see that while all three of these items, invention, design and translation fall inunder the category of design each is vital to the role of an architect. so if someoneasks you what does an architect do? you know that to start with, theyre inventors, theyredesigners and theyre translators. and that concludes the first part of our video seriesso you want to be an architect. im doug patt. see you next time.

architecture design

every weekend for as longas i can remember, my father would get up on a saturday, put on a worn sweatshirt and he'd scrape away at the squeaky old wheelof a house that we lived in.

architecture design

architecture design, i wouldn't even call it restoration; it was a ritual, catharsis. he would spend all yearscraping paint with this old heat gun and a spackle knife,

and then he would repaintwhere he scraped, only to begin again the following year. scraping and re-scraping,painting and repainting: the work of an old houseis never meant to be done. the day my father turned 52,i got a phone call. my mother was on the line to tell me that doctors had founda lump in his stomach -- terminal cancer, she told me, and he had been givenonly three weeks to live.

i immediately moved hometo poughkeepsie, new york, to sit with my father on death watch, not knowing what the next dayswould bring us. to keep myself distracted, i rolled up my sleeves, and i went about finishingwhat he could now no longer complete -- the restoration of our old home. when that looming three-week deadline came and then went,

he was still alive. and at three months, he joined me. we gutted and repainted the interior. at six months, the old windowswere refinished, and at 18 months, the rotted porch was finally replaced. and there was my father, standing with me outside, admiring a day's work,

hair on his head, fully in remission, when he turned to me and he said, "you know, michael, this house saved my life." so the following year, i decidedto go to architecture school. (laughter) but there, i learnedsomething different about buildings. recognition seemed to come to those who prioritizednovel and sculptural forms,

like ribbons, or ... pickles? and i think thisis supposed to be a snail. something about this bothered me. why was it that the best architects, the greatest architecture -- all beautiful and visionaryand innovative -- is also so rare, and seems to serve so very few? and more to the point:

with all of this creative talent, what more could we do? just as i was about to startmy final exams, i decided to take a breakfrom an all-nighter and go to a lecture by dr. paul farmer, a leading health activistfor the global poor. i was surprised to hear a doctortalking about architecture. buildings are makingpeople sicker, he said, and for the poorest in the world, this is causing epidemic-level problems.

in this hospital in south africa, patients that came inwith, say, a broken leg, to wait in this unventilated hallway, walked out with a multidrug-resistantstrand of tuberculosis. simple designs for infection controlhad not been thought about, and people had died because of it. "where are the architects?" paul said. if hospitals are making people sicker, where are the architects and designers

to help us build and designhospitals that allow us to heal? that following summer, i was in the back of a land roverwith a few classmates, bumping over the mountainoushillside of rwanda. for the next year, i'd be living in butaroin this old guesthouse, which was a jail after the genocide. i was there to design and builda new type of hospital with dr. farmer and his team. if hallways are making patients sicker,

what if we could design a hospitalthat flips the hallways on the outside, and makes people walk in the exterior? if mechanical systems rarely work, what if we could design a hospitalthat could breathe through natural ventilation, and meanwhile reduceits environmental footprint? and what about the patients' experience? evidence showsthat a simple view of nature can radically improve health outcomes,

so why couldn't we design a hospital where every patienthad a window with a view? simple, site-specific designscan make a hospital that heals. designing it is one thing; getting it built, we learned,is quite another. we worked with bruce nizeye, a brilliant engineer, and he thought aboutconstruction differently than i had been taught in school.

when we had to excavatethis enormous hilltop and a bulldozer was expensiveand hard to get to site, bruce suggested doing it by hand, using a method in rwanda called "ubudehe," which means "community worksfor the community." hundreds of people camewith shovels and hoes, and we excavated that hill in half the time and halfthe cost of that bulldozer. instead of importing furniture, bruce started a guild,

and he brought inmaster carpenters to train others in how to make furniture by hand. and on this job site, 15 years after the rwandan genocide, bruce insisted that we bring onlabor from all backgrounds, and that half of them be women. bruce was usingthe process of building to heal, not just for those who were sick, but for the entire community as a whole.

we call this the locally fabricatedway of building, or "lo-fab," and it has four pillars: hire locally, source regionally, train where you can and most importantly, think about every design decisionas an opportunity to invest in the dignityof the places where you serve. think of it like the local food movement,

but for architecture. and we're convincedthat this way of building can be replicated across the world, and change the way we talk aboutand evaluate architecture. using the lo-fab way of building, even aesthetic decisionscan be designed to impact people's lives. in butaro, we chose to usea local volcanic stone found in abundance within the area, but often considereda nuisance by farmers,

and piled on the side of the road. we worked with these masonsto cut these stones and form them into the wallsof the hospital. and when they began on this corner and wrapped around the entire hospital, they were so good at puttingthese stones together, they asked us if they could take downthe original wall and rebuild it. and you see what is possible. it's beautiful.

and the beauty, to me, comes from the fact that i knowthat hands cut these stones, and they formed them into this thick wall, made only in this placewith rocks from this soil. when you go outside todayand you look at your built world, ask not only: "what is the environmental footprint?" --an important question -- but what if we also asked, "what is the human handprintof those who made it?"

we started a new practicebased around these questions, and we tested it around the world. like in haiti, where we asked if a new hospitalcould help end the epidemic of cholera. in this 100-bed hospital, we designed a simple strategy to clean contaminated medical wastebefore it enters the water table, and our partners at les centres gheskio are already saving lives because of it.

or malawi: we asked if a birthing centercould radically reduce maternal and infant mortality. malawi has one of the highest ratesof maternal and infant death in the world. using a simple strategyto be replicated nationally, we designed a birthing center that would attract womenand their attendants to come to the hospital earlierand therefore have safer births.

or in the congo, where we asked if an educational centercould also be used to protect endangered wildlife. poaching for ivory and bushmeat is leading to global epidemic, disease transfer and war. in one of the hardest-to-reachplaces in the world, we used the mud and the dirtand the wood around us to construct a center that would show us ways to protectand conserve our rich biodiversity.

even here in the us, we were asked to rethink the largest university for the deafand hard of hearing in the world. the deaf community, through sign language, shows us the powerof visual communication. we designed a campusthat would awaken the ways in which we as humans all communicate, both verbally and nonverbally. and even in poughkeepsie, my hometown,

we thought about oldindustrial infrastructure. we wondered: could we use arts and cultureand design to revitalize this city and other rust belt citiesacross our nation, and turn them into centersfor innovation and growth? in each of these projects,we asked a simple question: what more can architecture do? and by asking that question, we were forced to considerhow we could create jobs,

how we could source regionally and how we could investin the dignity of the communities in which we serve. i have learned that architecture can bea transformative engine for change. about a year ago, i read an article about a tireless and intrepidcivil rights leader named bryan stevenson. (applause)

and bryan had a bold architectural vision. he and his team had been documenting the over 4,000 lynchingsof african-americans that have happened in the american south. and they had a plan to mark every countywhere these lynchings occurred, and build a national memorialto the victims of lynching in montgomery, alabama. countries like germany and south africa and, of course, rwanda,

have found it necessary to build memorials to reflect on the atrocitiesof their past, in order to heal their national psyche. we have yet to do thisin the united states. so i sent a cold emailto info@equaljusticeintiative.org: "dear bryan," it said, "i think your building project is maybe the most importantproject we could do in america and could change the waywe think about racial injustice.

by any chance, do you know who will design it?" surprisingly, shockingly, bryan got right back to me, and invited me down to meetwith his team and talk to them. needless to say,i canceled all my meetings and i jumped on a planeto montgomery, alabama. when i got there, bryan and his team picked me up,and we walked around the city.

and they took the time to point out the many markers that havebeen placed all over the city to the history of the confederacy, and the very few that markthe history of slavery. and then he walked me to a hill. it overlooked the whole city. he pointed out the riverand the train tracks where the largest domesticslave-trading port in america had once prospered.

and then to the capitol rotunda, where george wallacehad stood on its steps and proclaimed, "segregation forever." and then to the very hill below us. he said, "here we will builda new memorial that will change the identityof this city and of this nation." our two teams have workedtogether over the last year to design this memorial. the memorial will take us on a journey

through a classical, almost familiar building type, like the parthenonor the colonnade at the vatican. but as we enter, the ground drops below usand our perception shifts, where we realize that these columnsevoke the lynchings, which happened in the public square. and as we continue, we begin to understand the vast number of those who have yet to be put to rest.

their names will be engravedon the markers that hang above us. and just outside will be a fieldof identical columns. but these are temporary columns, waiting in purgatory, to be placed in the very countieswhere these lynchings occurred. over the next few years, this site will bear witness, as each of these markers is claimed and visibly placed in those counties. our nation will begin to healfrom over a century of silence.

when we think abouthow it should be built, we were reminded of ubudehe, the building processwe learned about in rwanda. we wondered if we could fillthose very columns with the soil from the sitesof where these killings occurred. brian and his team have beguncollecting that soil and preserving it in individual jars with family members, communityleaders and descendants. the act of collecting soil itself

has lead to a type of spiritual healing. it's an act of restorative justice. as one eji team member noted in the collection of the soilfrom where will mcbride was lynched, "if will mcbride left one drop of sweat, one drop of blood, one hair follicle -- i pray that i dug it up, and that his whole bodywould be at peace."

we plan to break groundon this memorial later this year, and it will be a place to finally speakof the unspeakable acts that have scarred this nation. when my father told methat day that this house -- our house -- had saved his life, what i didn't know was that he was referringto a much deeper relationship between architecture and ourselves.

buildings are not simplyexpressive sculptures. they make visible our personaland our collective aspirations as a society. great architecture can give us hope. great architecture can heal. thank you very much.

hi, im doug patt and this is how to architect.ten tips to be a successful architect? apart from having the right degrees, experienceand license (here in the usa) there are ten things an architect can do to encourage success.#1. at any stage of a career, exceptional work is key to success. good work transcendsbarriers to entry. #2. a good portfolio and resume will get your foot in the door. #3.make the right contacts (network to make them)
